Rustie - Artist Research no.2

Rustie is an electronic music producer from Glasgow, signed to warp records. He has a very trademark sound and production style, which has made him increasingly popular, throwing out studio based producers, allowing him to collaborate with more popular artists such as AlunaGeorge.

Rustie's image is very abstract in the fact you can never find a picture of him without a crazy edit on his photos. Also his image is strengthened by only playing at exclusive and trendy clubs or events, mainly abroad such as Belgium. He is also known for his EP artwork as it always involves crystals and diamonds, which really distinguishes himself.

Rustie released his first album "Glass swords" On warp records, which was very popular. My favourite tune from the album is "Afterlight" which had one instrumental version and one collab with AlunaGeorge. Listen

I think that the bright sounds with the high female vocals creates a dreamy effect and brings up ideas of fantasy. This would work really well in a music video, as we could bring in these elements of fantasy very easily. My idea for a music video was to have a performance music video, with a strong use of CGI to produce crystals falling from the sky, whilst a female vocalist is singing behind a man (representation of rustie) is DJ'ing on the decks. We would use a variety of shots and different costumes in order to make the performance as exciting as possible.

Boy Kid Cloud - Artist Research no.1

Over the summer i have been working for a record label called Inspected, which is an electronic music label, and has signed some very new and artists. Before working with them i have been following their music and artists for around 3 years, through this i have found a few potential artists i could use as my project.

Boy kid cloud is an electronic music producer with a difference, instead of using collaborations to gain vocals, he uses his own. He has released two EP's with Inspected:

Part of my job working at inspected was to produce release forms, which showed how well the releases went, including support the EP got. Boy kid cloud has a organic image, allowing him to gain publicity on huge websites such as the Guardian (Read), also gaining publicity from some of the worlds biggest DJ's such as Skrillex.

I think Boy Kid Cloud will be a very interesting artist to work with in producing a music video as he provides music that is very different in combining two completely sides of music together. It is also very easy for me to contact him and ask questions, therefore our group will be able to enquire more about him. His image is very "natural" with very clean vocals, and simple artwork. Gives off the sense he is just an everyday guy with a talent, which I wanted to show in our music video.

He has already produced a few music videos, showing us what he can do (Watch).

 

My idea for the song "6am" is a narrative and performance video which films a man going through his day at work. However the performance will be happening in fast motion showing how stressful the day is. It will show the man waking up, at work, at lunch, at home with his wife fighting, and sleeping. The difference is that his miming will not be in fast so it seems like he is singing. I think this would be a good way of showing his "organic" artist feel.
