Animatic responses

On Friday our class pitched our animatic's to Luke and the rest of the class. Animatics are important as they give a clear visual set of ideas of what is going to be happen in the music video, therefore highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of our music video. Similarly story boards play a similar role in allowing us to link all the shots together and have a more basic visual structure of the music video.

One strength we received was that it was very well edited in time with the music, this is positive as the drums in the song are very heavy, making cuts look very effective if it is in time. The drawings were also praised for being very clear, allowing the group to understand what was happening during the animatic.

On the other hand, Luke's main worry was the lack of the performance element, as the narrative did not flow into the performance element of things as easily as it could of done. This is useful as we know are going to alter some scenes in order to create fluidity and a bigger effect. For example we will start having shots of people running to the rave a lot earlier. This is going to effect our decision making as we will have to shoot certain scenes in alternative orders, as well as the editing process as we will have to intercut the performance with the narrative.

  1. Gil, your blog is developing well and there is plenty of evidence here of a comprehensive research and planning process. This post on the animatic however is not as detailed as required. If you look at the task brief again, you will see that there is a need for some reflection on the role of storyboarding generally as well as some thoughts about how the feedback might influence future decision making on the product. It is important to complete prep tasks with the instructions in front of you so that you can deliver what has been asked as fully as possible.
